High Hand Gallery invites you to join us in the fruit sheds on the evening of September 6, 2013, for a Night of Art & Music. The event is the kickoff of this year’s Artstock 2013, an exhibition featuring large-format works specially crafted by the artists of High Hand Gallery.
The evening will feature live music (check back on our Events Page for the identity of the musician!), hors d’oeuvres for your munching pleasure, awards, and, of course, great art. We’ll have docents to tell you about the artwork and answer any questions you have. The wineries will be open if you’re into that wine-tasting sort of thing.
The exhibition will feature all new artwork, in the many media of the High Hand Gallery. Right now, the artists are busy making works just for this show. We’ve already seen some of the sculpture. There will be ceramics, metal sculpture, paintings, mixed media—maybe even mixed artists! (Some of the artists who do not normally work in large format may be teaming up together.)
At the Night of Art & Music, we’ll be presenting several awards to the artists: Best of Show, Best Sculpture, Best Painting. And throughout September you’ll be able to vote for your pick for People’s Choice Award. That award will be given out toward the end of the show, on October 1. Vote early (and often!).
Tickets for the Night of Art & Music, which are $15, will be available on our Events page, or at the gallery. We hope you’ll be able to join us.

On Saturday, June 1, join members of High Hand Gallery for Bloomtastic! at Maple Rock Gardens in Newcastle, California.
We’ll have a booth with artwork from several of our artists. Your humble blogger will be bringing her floral paintings to share. Seems appropriate, right? To bring flower paintings to a celebration of gardens? We’ll also have some glass-and-metal pieces, some silk paintings, collages. At this point, we’re not quite sure just where our booth will be located, so we can’t give you specific directions—but look for us. We’ll be there!

Do you have your tickets yet?
High Hand Gallery started the Artful Bra Show five years ago to raise money for cancer research. In that time, it's grown to be our biggest event of the year. As readers of this blog know, we love to share—so we open Artful Bra to anyone who wants to make a bra to donate. We have more than 50 bras this year, some of which you've seen in previous posts. They are creative, funny, lovely. They've been displayed in the Fruit Sheds at High Hand for two weeks, to help people think about which ones they'd like to bid on. (And, by the way, we've had people asking to place bids on them from the first day the display went up!)
Now, here we are! The 5th Annual Artful Bra Show and Night of Support is tonight. The silent auction starts at 5:00. Judge Tina Macuha of Sacramento's Channel 31 has selected the best bras for the live auction, which starts at 6:30. We'll have wine and goodies for you to enjoy. We will be videotaping the event to share with you afterwards (but we will not be taking bids over the phone—we're not that advanced yet!)
All proceeds from the Night of Support will benefit the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Help save lives, and create more birthdays!Read more link text
Just wanted to let you know, there will be life after the 5th Annual Artful Bra Show and Night of Support on May 25.
On June 1, 2013, join members of High Hand Gallery for Bloomtastic! at Maple Rock Gardens in Newcastle, California.
We’ll have a booth with artwork from several of our artists. Other events include a plein air quick draw competition, miniature trains, and of course, fabulous gardens.
Will we see you there?Read more link text
Artful Bra is almost here! We’re getting excited!
Have you made a bra for the show? You have one more weekend to complete your piece. Next week, bring your creation to High Hand Gallery in Loomis, California. We’re going to put them on display in the fruit sheds for two weeks before the Artful Bra V Night of Support big event. We’ve heard over the years that people want more time to see these creations before they’re sold at auction at our Artful Bra show.
And—tell us your stories. Either in the comments below or on our Facebook page (link). We want to know the stories behind the bras. Did you make them in honor of a friend who had cancer? In memory of a relative? Or do you just want to contribute?
Even if you didn’t make a bra—come to the event. Tell us your story. Bring a friend. Support those you know and those you don’t know.
Bras are due at the gallery May 7 and 8 (that’s next week!). More information is available on our Calls for Artists page.
You can purchase tickets to the Night of Support on our Events page.
And, oh yes! We will have a new show up at the gallery, starting this weekend. It’s called Spirit. It will be up through the end of June.
So tell us: what’s the story behind the bra you made?Read more link text
When High Hand Gallery started the Artful Bra event five years ago, we did it because we wanted to give back: we wanted to support friends and loved ones who had battled with cancer —and sometimes lost. We wanted to create beautiful pieces of art, and share them with you, our community, our tribe. We wanted you to participate as fully as you wanted to, too, so we opened the Artful Bra show up to anyone who wanted to create a bra.
And now, five years on, we STILL love to share the chance for you to create a bra and include it in the auction. We’ve been amazed at the creativity and the beauty and the generosity of the people who have made bras, and those people who have purchased them. There have been gowns and feathers and foam and wine-oriented bras. There have been metal and ceramic and tiny, jewelry box size bras.
And now it’s your turn once again. We want you to create something funny, beautiful, flowing—or glowing! You’ll feel good about yourself, knowing that you’ve helped raise money for cancer research to help your sister, mother, brother, or cousin.
Bring your bras to High Hand Gallery on May 7 or 8, 10:00 to 5:00. (That’s in 10 days!) The entry fee is $10, and includes one ticket to the Night of Support, May 25 (a $25 value). Then—show up! Enjoy yourself! You’ll be glad you did.
There’s more information about bringing in bras on our Calls for Artists page.
You can purchase tickets to the Night of Support on our Events page.

We usually don’t go in for puns. But this one we just couldn’t resist sharing with you. It’s an entry for this year’s Artful Bra V show. We hope it will inspire you to make your own bra for the event…
Remember: Artful Bra V: Night of Support is a benefit for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
Anyone can make a bra and enter it into the show. That means you! Bras can be wearable or not, any size and medium. They can be whimsical or lyrical or just plain beautiful. Entry fees are $10. Bras are due at the gallery May 7, 2013.
Bras will be displayed in a preview show in the fruit sheds May 11 to May 24. Judge Tina Macuha from Channel 31 will select 15 bras for a live auction. Then, on our Night of Support, we hope you will join us to bid on bras in both our silent auction and the live auction. Tickets are available on our Events page.
What kind of bra are you making for the show?

This weekend at High Hand Gallery: ArtFest 2013. We tell you all the time that we love to share. This weekend, we’re sharing the fruit shed with artists from around the region, and we’re sharing how we make our artwork. This juried show had one simple requirement: artists have to demonstrate their craft. That means you can watch and ask questions of jewelers, sculptors, painters, and mixed-media artists.
New this year: artists will be setting up both inside the fruit sheds and outside on the nursery grounds. So there’s even more to enjoy.
Here’s who’s going to be here:
Ceramics (in the fruit sheds)
Jewelry (in the fruit sheds unless noted)
